Cats in Space - the Cat

The Cat
Feline Sapien, Red Dwarf

The humanoid descendant of the modern house cat, Frankenstein.
Human in appearance, the Cat still exhibits cat-like behaviour . Excessively vain and cool.

Demonstrated in  the youtube clip below.

Been waiting to add the Cat to this list for a while. I still get way too much enjoyment from watching Red Dwarf. :D

Cats in Space - Spot

 Spot
Star Trek

Felis catus is your taxonomic nomenclature,

An endothermic quadruped, carnivorous by nature;

Your visual, olfactory, and auditory senses

Contribute to your hunting skills and natural defenses.

I find myself intrigued by your subvocal oscillations,

A singular development of cat communications

That obviates your basic hedonistic predilection

For a rhythmic stroking of your fur to demonstrate affection.

A tail is quite essential for your acrobatic talents;

You would not be so agile if you lacked its counterbalance.

And when not being utilized to aid in locomotion,

It often serves to illustrate the state of your emotion.

O Spot, the complex levels of behavior you display

Connote a fairly well-developed cognitive array.

And though you are not sentient, Spot, and do not comprehend,

I nonetheless consider you a true and valued friend.

Trying a different process with this illustration.
This one was painted in greyscale first. Colour was added after the illustration was finished in grey.

Will probably continue working in this way for a bit. It is nice to get the illustration figured out before adding the challenge of colour.

This also forces me to be way more organized with my layers in photoshop (in my personal work). :D

below is the greyscale version

Cats in Space - Jake

 Jake (aka Zunar-J-5/9/Doric-4-7)
 The Cat From Outer Space

An extraterrestrial cat who is stranded on Earth when his flying saucer crash lands. His collar lets him talk to humans and gives him telekinetic abilities.

Cats in Space - Jones

Jones
crewmember of the Nostromo, Alien

Jones earned the survivor award for outliving nearly all his human shipmates in a hostile alien encounter.

Cats in Space - Félicette

The original Astrocat.

This is Félicette, the first cat sent into space (France), 49 years ago from this day.

She is cat number one, for the Cats in Space Hall of Fame.

It wouldn't be right to not include her.

Her space exploits total approximately 15 minutes. Pioneering the way.

Cats in Space Hall of Fame

So lately I have been painting portraits of brave Cats who have journeyed into the final frontier.

The Cats in Space Hall of Fame will be appearing in its entirety in the "Cats in Space" zine I have been working on.

I will be posting a new Cat weekly for the next while, starting next week.

If anyone has a favourite cat from space you think deserves to be commemorated, let me know so I can include them in the Hall of Fame.

Well hello there

In-betweeen drawings of cats, I sometimes work on other things. This is a family portrait I did recently. These are some awesome people I work for (well the dog and little girl make some appearances too..). I think painting the kid and all the goggles were the most fun parts.

It was a hard decision, what type of dino-robot to paint, but you can see what won in the end.

Note that there are no cats at all in this picture. This was a challenge.

Cats in Space

Cat-drawing update.

Cat's in Space  will be zine number two. The contents are still a mystery, but after having a encouraging response to C is For (cat) (Thank you for bombarding me with cat stories and photos. Love it). I really want to make more little books.

This one will not be an activity book, but I still want to make a new papercraft for the end of the book. I have started building an army of paper kittens from the last zine, but it's not enough.

Should be ready for Canzine in October (Hopefully :D)

Howdy.

Hi there!

Man this summer has just been flying by.

Here are some Mass Effect portraits I just finished up.

Felt like drawing some aliens basically. And, snuck jack in there because she is super fun to draw (with her gigantic lips). Going to hopefully conclude my playthrough of Mass Effect soon. Still have yet to play through number 3, but I will get there eventually. (Mainly just me being stubborn and not wanting to use Origin...)
